The Artisans

The talented artisans who create our products are incredible human beings. Watching them work over the years they have shown great temperance and fortitude, patience, dignity and grace. They never fail to fill anyone in their presence, with admiration.

Making the money you need to feed your family and have the chance of a better life is a battle for many more across the world in the wake of the coronavirus.

Keeping up hope, energy, drive, motivation and the productivity required to drive tangible change and improvement takes considerable strength, day in day out.

If you are a woman in Uganda add to all of that:

  • Extreme levels of poverty

  • Lack of education and skills, and in turn lack of opportunity

  • Damage to health or loss of life through HIV/AIDS

  • Domestic violence - a historical and once more increasing problem

And yet these women are resilient, determined, unafraid of hard work even in old age, supportive of each other, happy to try something new, keen to create a better life and with a frankly remarkable level of bounce-back-ability.

Know that what you gift yourself or others from here is made with gentle hands over many hours and sometimes days. These are hands worn with care belonging to women whose hearts are full of hope and spirits full of joy - no exaggeration; the women of the Ride 4 a Woman collective are my inspiration and I want to tell you about them, help you know their stories better, so you enjoy their products all the more.
