Doing good, doing business

Believe In Kind is a Social Enterprise - a commercial organisation with the aim of improving the economic and social welfare of women in Uganda. It’s time for change.

We are just at the beginning but our goal is to give back as much as we can in order to keep women artisans at work, enable more to be trained, help feed and educate their children and improve communities - their productivity and in turn, spirit.

Why Uganda?

Travelling in Uganda led us to the door of many different women’s initiatives. We asked ourselves why are there so many? Dig a little and you discover that women here face a set of challenges that when combined make life tough, to say the least. Poverty, domestic violence, the impacts of HIV and now on top of all of that, COVID-19, create a perfect storm and so we want to do something to help.

The story so far

While Believe In Kind is in its infancy, we began our support effort three years ago when our founder Sharon Hedges travelled to Uganda. Meeting our main partners Evelyn Habasa and Denis Rubalema (creators of the Ride 4 a Woman collective), in the heart of the Bwindi Impenetrable rainforest, Sharon immediately engaged in supporting them to help grow their women’s empowerment initiative. In 2020, when COVID-19 hit, two fundraising campaigns were initiated - to help provide food and then help keep the trained, skilled women in work, making facemasks for the world.
